Safety & Security

Crystal Cruise ships are designed with safety as the #1 priority. Every vessel is built to the highest safety standards and equipped with features such as modern stabilizers. Crystal ships achieve the highest marks on testing inspections every year and comply with all international safety codes.

Stringent security measures are also adopted. When leaving and re-boarding the ship in port, a computerized security system scans your stateroom key card at the gangway. To ensure guest safety and security, all personal items are screened when boarding.

Important Note: On the last night of your cruise, all check-in luggage will be collected outside your stateroom door, so that it can be cleared through customs before disembarkation. Remember not to pack critical travel documents such as air tickets, passports and wallets your check-in luggage. You may decide to pack an overnight bag to keep your identification and personal items with you for the morning.

Air Transportation

If you choose to make your own air arrangements, we suggest you allow a minimum of four hours between the flight arrival time and ship embarkation time. Information relating to both the specific pier and embarkation times can be found on your cruise ticket. However, be sure that you actually see your ship as port authorities can change the location of the pier or berth number.

When you disembark at the end of the cruise, do not plan to leave the ship for at least two hours after docking. Various inspections will be conducted by customs and immigration during this time. If you make independent flight reservations, our specialists will contact Crystal Cruises' for departure guidelines (times vary according to the distance between the airport and the pier).

All charges relating to transfers, porter fees and luggage handling are included in the all-inclusive Crystal Air/Sea Program. However you may purchase embarkation and disembarkation transfers if you arrange air travel independently.

Remember that flight schedules frequently do change. We strongly recommend that you reconfirm all flight times at least 48 hours prior to departure.

Clothing Suggestions

A casual mix of active resort wear is worn by guests throughout the day. The dress code for the dining room is casual during the day (although swimsuits are not appropriate). Alfresco dining can be enjoyed on deck if you do not wish to change for an afternoon meal.

Remember to bring comfortable walking shoes for days in port. Our travel specialists can suggest special items you might want to pack based on the time of year and your destination.

A specific evening dress code applies to all public areas after 6:00 pm: casual, informal and formal. The number of casual nights is based on days in port and informal nights is based on the number days at sea. A typical 10- to 14-day cruise generally has three formal nights.

The following guidelines relate to evening attire:

  • Formal: evening dresses and gowns are recommended for ladies; a dinner jacket, tuxedo, or dark suit for gentlemen.
  • Informal: evening/cocktail dresses or pantsuits are suitable for ladies; a sport coat and slacks, with ties optional, for gentlemen.
  • Casual: a more relaxed attire is acceptable, including casual dresses and pantsuits for ladies; attire such as a sport shirt and slacks for gentlemen.

There are normally two "themed" evenings held on each cruise. Examples include a '50s night, "Rock Around the Clock"/Sock Hop and the Medieval extravaganza "An Evening in Camelot". Guests may wish to bring costumes and/or special attire relating to these themes.
